decentralized zine network of the creative writing department of the
institute of American Indian arts
we meet on wednesdays from 6-8 in the academic computer lab. questions? email: iaiadazone@gmail.com
what do we do?
we show you how to use the adobe products you already pay for to make zines you can sell and give away. but it's more than that of course. last semester the young warrior zine was a community wide phenomenon that increased campus solidarity and helped bring big positive changes to our school. in order for this to be a sustainable movement, we want to show you how to make your own zines and continue to bring about positive community changes.
come by yourself, or with a group of creatives. you'll be in the same room with the new young warrior editors learning the same things they are learning. you can bring your own project or come with the idea of joining someone else's. you can bring writing, artwork, music, and film that you want to see published in your community, or you might just be interested in the technical side of working with indesign and photoshop. none of us are experts, and that's part of the fun!
why decentralized? distributed would work just as well. it's the fact that power when consolidated becomes something destructive, but power shared creates a world more people can live better lives in. using indesign to create media is a powerful act. investing in learning how to work with this software while we have it at our fingertips poises us to radiate power into the people around us. a zine can be anything you want it to be. a small book, a flyer, a standalone piece of artwork. we are here to help empower your expression.
